Rural communities across Highland are set to receive more than £1 million in new funding, with applications opening later this month to support local projects and tackle inequality.
The funding, delivered through the Highland Local Action Group, will target community asset improvements and support for children, young people and families across eligible rural areas.
Two main priorities have been identified, focusing on strengthening community infrastructure and addressing inequality at a local level.
Under the scheme, organisations will be able to apply for both small and larger grants, depending on the scale and nature of their project.
Small grants of up to £10,000 will be available through a single stage application process, designed to provide quicker access to funding for smaller initiatives.
These applications will open on 28 April, with approvals expected from mid May, and will remain open until the funding is fully allocated.
For larger projects, grants of up to £25,000 will be available through a two stage process, allowing more substantial proposals to be assessed in detail.
Expressions of interest for these larger grants will open on 13 April and must be submitted by 24 April, with successful applicants invited to complete a full application.
Final decisions on larger grants are expected by the end of June.
Projects supported through the fund must be ready to begin from 1 July, or earlier in the case of smaller grants, and must be completed and fully claimed by the end of February 2027.
Applicants will also need to demonstrate that their projects are based on current costs and supported by valid quotations.
The funding is specifically aimed at rural areas, meaning organisations based within Inverness City are not eligible in this round.
Badenoch and Strathspey will also be excluded, as funding there is administered separately through the Cairngorm Trust.
The programme forms part of wider efforts to support community led development across the Highlands, ensuring local organisations have access to the resources needed to deliver practical change.
With pressure continuing on rural services and families, the funding offers a timely opportunity for communities to invest in projects that strengthen resilience and improve everyday life.
Full eligibility criteria and guidance will be published on the Highland Council website by 13 April 2026
