£1 Million Makeover Brings Fresh Look to Highland Coast Hotels

A £1 million investment is bringing new bedrooms and refurbished spaces to hotels across the North Highlands and Wester Ross as Highland Coast Hotels continues its push to strengthen year round tourism.

Properties at Kylesku, Plockton and Inverness have undergone major improvements, while the historic Brass Tap at Tongue Hotel has also reopened following its own transformation earlier this year.

Kylesku Hotel has added four new guestrooms to its main building and brought the seven bedrooms at Kylesku House under the hotel brand.

The changes mean Kylesku Hotel will now offer 22 rooms to visitors exploring Assynt during the autumn and winter months.

Further south in Wester Ross, all 10 rooms at The Haven at Plockton Inn have undergone a major upgrade alongside improvements to its public areas.

Existing beds and furniture have been restored, reupholstered and repurposed rather than replaced as part of the group’s approach to sustainability.

The remaining guestrooms and guest lounge at The Haven are due to be renovated in early 2027.

In Inverness, Lochardil House has received improvements to its guest lounge alongside new artwork by local artist Joanna McDonough, whose abstract landscapes draw inspiration from the weather, colours and scenery of the Highlands.

All 12 guestrooms within the original Lochardil House building and its garden wing have also been upgraded.

Managing Director of Highland Coast Hotels Kenny McMillan said:

“Our latest £1million makeover across four of our six hotels is yet further evidence of how we’re elevating the visitor experience, as well as helping to boost the regional tourism economy throughout the year.

“As Scotland’s newest luxury boutique hotel collection, Highlands Coast Hotels is already establishing its reputation for showcasing world-class Highland hospitality across the North Coast 500 and Wester Ross.

“We’re also committed to providing year-round employment opportunities and community-led hospitality.

“Our aim is to create lasting professional careers in hospitality that will benefit our small and remote Highland communities.”

The investment follows the reopening earlier this year of the Brass Tap at Tongue Hotel, one of Scotland’s most northerly historic pubs.

Its refurbishment included a new interior and outdoor terrace looking across the Kyle of Tongue towards Castle Varrich, Ben Loyal and Ben Hope.

Highland Coast Hotels was established in 2021 and has since assembled a collection of six properties stretching across some of the most recognisable destinations in the north of Scotland.

The group now includes Tongue Hotel, Kylesku Hotel, Plockton Inn, Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch, Royal Marine Hotel in Brora and Lochardil House in Inverness.

Alongside investment in its properties, the company is promoting slower and more responsible travel, encouraging visitors to spend time in communities, support local businesses and respect the landscapes around them.

The latest improvements also underline the group’s ambition to make Highland tourism less dependent on the traditional summer season, with renovated rooms being promoted to visitors throughout autumn and winter.

For communities where hospitality remains an important source of employment and economic activity, turning more of Scotland’s spectacular northern coastline into a year round destination could prove every bit as important as the £1 million being spent on the hotels themselves.
