MSP Kate Forbes has welcomed confirmation that Scotland continues to lead the way in the provision of public electric vehicle (EV) charging points as new figures showed there are now 7,355 across the country, including 457 in the Highlands.
Last year, Scotland reached its target of installing more than 6,000 public EV charge points, two years ahead of the 2026 target.
Thanks to further investment from the SNP Government, this number has increased by 22.5% in the last year.
Scotland continues to have the highest number of public charging devices per head of population of any UK nation, with 35 per 100,000 people.
The SNP Government further showed its commitment to making sustainable travel accessible to everyone by announcing a further £10.8 million in funding for charging infrastructure across the country in recent months.
Kate Forbes MSP said:
“I welcome the news that there are now 457 public electric vehicle charging points working in the Highlands.
“There has been specific funding towards improving EV charging in rural and island areas, which has helped to reduce the additional costs in the Highlands and Islands.
“There remains more work to be done, and I will continue to work with local businesses and private charge point providers to secure more investment here so that we can maintain this progress and deliver more public charge points here in the Highlands.
