A 92 year old woman has died following a road traffic collision involving a vehicle on Academy Street in Inverness on Thursday 29 October 2026.

Emergency services were called to the busy city centre street at around 9.50am following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and Police Scotland have confirmed that her next of kin have been informed.

Academy Street was closed between Crown Road and Chapel Street while officers carried out investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The closure remained in place for around seven hours, with the road reopening to traffic at 5pm.

Police Scotland have now launched an appeal for witnesses and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have footage of the incident.

Officers are asking motorists who were travelling through the area around the time of the collision to check any dashcam recordings that could assist their enquiries.

Sgt Calum MacAulay said:

“Our thoughts are with the woman who died at this difficult time.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we’re appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“If anyone witnessed what happened and is still to speak to officers, or may have dashcam footage of significance, please get in touch.”

Police have not released further details about the vehicle involved or the circumstances that led to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist officers is being urged to contact Police Scotland.

The investigation remains ongoing.
