Drivers travelling on the A82 near Corran Ferry are being warned to prepare for overnight road closures later this month as resurfacing works get under way at Inchree.
BEAR Scotland has confirmed that the work will begin on Monday 26 October and continue until Friday 13 November, with closures operating between 7pm and 6am on working nights.
The revised start date follows changes elsewhere in the road maintenance programme, with the improvements being carried out on behalf of Transport Scotland.
The work will take place in two phases, covering sections of the A82 on either side of the Corran Ferry crossing.
The first phase will concentrate on the road south of Corran Ferry, beginning on Monday 26 October and continuing until the morning of Wednesday 4 November.
The second phase will begin on Wednesday 4 November, focusing on the section north of Inchree, with work scheduled to finish on the morning of Friday 13 November.
There will be no resurfacing works on Friday or Saturday nights, allowing traffic to move normally during those periods.
During the overnight closures, drivers will not be able to travel freely through the affected sections, but BEAR Scotland has arranged regular opportunities for waiting vehicles to pass.
These escorted journeys, known as amnesty periods, will take place at 8pm, 9pm until 9.30pm, 10.30pm, 11.30pm, 1am, 3am and 5am.
Motorists arriving between these times may have to wait until the next scheduled opportunity to travel through the works.
The arrangements have been designed to accommodate scheduled bus services and the final Corran Ferry sailings, helping to reduce disruption for passengers and local communities.
Emergency services and scheduled buses will continue to have access throughout the works.
The A82 is a major route through Lochaber, carrying local residents, commercial traffic and visitors between Fort William, Ballachulish and communities further south.
With the Corran Ferry providing an important connection to communities across the Corran Narrows, maintaining access during the resurfacing is particularly important.
BEAR Scotland says the improvements will repair existing defects in the carriageway and replace road markings to provide a better driving surface.
The company has consulted relevant organisations ahead of the closures to explain the arrangements and help minimise inconvenience.
Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Design Manager, said:
“This resurfacing project on the A82 at Inchree will address existing defects in the road surface and renew road markings, improving the quality and safety for road users.
“Our teams will work efficiently to complete these improvements as quickly and safely as possible.
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience while these essential works are undertaken.”
Although the resurfacing will take place overnight, motorists using the route during the affected hours are being advised to allow additional time for their journeys.
Anyone travelling to catch the Corran Ferry or connect with onward transport should pay particular attention to the escorted passage times.
The programme is expected to finish on Friday 13 November, with the overnight arrangements remaining in place during the scheduled working periods.
Drivers can check the latest traffic conditions and any changes to the programme through Traffic Scotland before setting out.
