Actions in Yemen and Gaza Wrong Says Isles MP

Isles MP Angus MacNeil has described the air strikes on Yemen as highly ill-advised as they may escalate tensions in the Red Sea.

Commenting Angus MacNeil MP said:

“It is very concerning that US airstrikes in Yemen may now escalate tensions in the Red Sea.

“Churchill’s maxim of, “Jaw jaw jaw being better than war war war” is again very apt.

“The situation with the Houthis in the Red Sea in Yemen is borne out of the deaths of 23,000 Palestinian civilians bombed indiscriminately, carelessly and recklessly by Israel.

“The best way to resolve the entire situation is not to escalate as the US and UK have done by bombing Yemen but to get a ceasefire in Gaza, something Tories and Labour have not supported, and it is up to those in Labour to explain that locally.

“We rightly condemned the bombing of Ukraine, we should be condemning the bombing of Gaza and we should be condemning the bombing of Yemen.

“A world where we pour petrol on to the fire, as the UK and US have just done, and not making any attempt to reign in Israel’s war over the people of Gaza is something that is of great concern.

“No wonder Foreign Secretary David Cameron said that the dashboards of foreign affairs are all flashing red.

“Unfortunately, his own Government is not helping in the least.

“What is even worse is that the rest of the world sees Western hypocrisy when some bombings are good, and some bombings are bad depending on who is carrying them out.

“Terrorism by anybody, whether it is with light arms or with sophisticated planes, is not the answer going forward.

“We need to end terrorism in all its forms, war in all its forms, and not exacerbate in making the situation worse.

“Finally, Labour and the Tories need to take a good hard look at themselves for not supporting a Ceasefire in Gaza, especially as Israel is in the dock at the ICJ accused of genocide, and then supporting this escalation.

“For safety of ships and mariners jaw jaw is what is needed.”
