The Alexandra Bridge at Tain Links has been closed to the public after inspections revealed deterioration to the timber walkway.
A recent site visit confirmed that the boards had weakened, prompting the decision to shut the bridge in the interests of public safety.
The Highland Council has moved quickly to engage a local contractor to carry out the repairs and says the bridge will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
Until then, access remains restricted, and the council is urging people to respect the closure and avoid the structure.
The Alexandra Bridge is a much-used link for walkers and visitors, and its temporary closure will be felt by the community, but officials stress that safety must always come first.
