Following the latest Covid-19 update, the SNP has condemned the UK government for its “arrogance and hypocrisy” after the Prime Minister’s U-turn on his own self-isolation.
Reports yesterday revealed that Boris Johnson initially took the decision to ignore Track and Trace protocols to avoid isolating for ten days – before quickly reversing the decision following public outrage.
The SNP’s Health spokesperson, Dr Philippa Whitford MP, has said that only independence can rid Scotland of Tory sleaze.
Commenting, SNP MP Dr Philippa Whitford said:
“This whole scandal demonstrates the arrogance and hypocrisy of this UK government.
“Boris Johnson showed, yet again, that he believes it’s one rule for him and the Tories, and another for the rest of us.
“He knew he had been in contact with the Health Secretary and should already have taken action on Saturday, yet the only reason he reversed his decision was because of the rightful backlash he and Rishi Sunak received from the public.
“This is just the latest failure of leadership from the Prime Minister, and it certainly won’t be the last.
“Westminster is rotten to the core and broken beyond repair.
“Instead of accepting our fate, Scotland can shake off Tory sleaze once and for all and begin building a fairer and more democratic future as an independent nation.”
