Alan Douglas has been writing about cars since his first article appeared in his school magazine when he was sweet sixteen. They'd only just done away with the man with the red flag by then and over the many decades he's witnessed the huge transformation in our cars' design, technology and place in society. He still loves driving, but says it's not like the old days!
He has held car, bus, lorry and motorbike licences and is an approved observer with IAM Roadsmart.
He is co-presenter of the motoring podcast Scotland the Drive and also broadcasts regularly on BBC Scotland TV and Radio, BBC Radio 5Live and STV.
