Badenoch’s last surviving community fireworks display is getting ready to light up the night as the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore prepares to host its much-loved Bonfire Night celebration.
The free family event takes place on Tuesday 5 November outside the hotel, with the fireworks set to burst into life at 6pm.
The display, organised by pyrotechnics specialists Moray Firth Fireworks, has been a highlight of the Aviemore calendar for nearly twenty years.
It was first introduced by the hotel’s late former owner, Peter Steinle, and has continued to draw big crowds of locals and visitors every year.
While Bonfire Night events once took place across Badenoch, in Grantown, Kincraig and Boat of Garten many have not returned since the Covid pandemic, making Aviemore’s the last remaining community display in the area.
Cairngorm Hotel General Manager Craig Docherty said the team was proud to keep the tradition alive.
“It’s incredibly popular and even more important to families now that some of the other traditional fireworks displays in the area have fallen away,” he said.
“The professional fireworks team are hugely experienced and put on a brilliant show, and the hotel has always been a great backdrop.
“We’re really looking forward to it.”
The hotel is adding a few family-friendly touches this year, including free hot chocolate and popcorn for under-12s dining with their parents in the restaurant.
Mr Docherty said the night was all about community, celebration and colour.
“It’s a family and community event, and we’re hoping for the kind of crisp, clear weather that gives everyone the best possible view,” he said.
The event is free to attend, with no tickets required, just wrap up warm, arrive early, and enjoy one of the Highlands’ last remaining local firework traditions.
