The brightly coloured houses of Tobermory are about to welcome cameras once more as filming begins on a brand‑new series of Balamory.
More than two decades after it first charmed young viewers, the much‑loved children’s show is being reimagined for a new generation while keeping its gentle heart intact.
Miss Hoolie, played by Julie Wilson Nimmo, is returning to the nursery at the centre of the story, joined by other familiar faces including PC Plum, Penny Pocket and Edie McCredie.

They will be joined by an energetic new cast of islanders, including scientist and inventor Ava Potts, a Harbour Master and a local vet named Dr Ollie who cares for animals alongside his two children.
Filming will take place both in studios in Glasgow and on location in Tobermory, the real‑life Isle of Mull town that inspired the fictional setting.
The revival will bring 20 new episodes across two series, each around 14 minutes long, to air on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in 2026.
Kate Morton, Senior Head of Children’s Commissioning at BBC Children’s and Education, said the new series strikes the perfect balance between nostalgia and discovery.
“It’s wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together,” she said.
“This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown‑ups who remember it fondly.”
Originally produced between 2002 and 2005, Balamory became a household favourite, its songs and colourful houses becoming part of countless childhood memories.
Producers say the new episodes will celebrate that legacy while refreshing the storytelling for today’s preschoolers.
Children will still find music, comedy and everyday adventures at the heart of the programme, alongside stories rooted in community life.
Lisa Hazlehurst of Lion Television Scotland, which is producing the new series, described it as a joyful celebration of curiosity and kindness.
“Balamory has always been about friendship, play and the magic of everyday life,” she said.
“We’re thrilled to bring that world back to screens for families to enjoy together.”
Families can expect the familiar theme song, the same colourful harbour and plenty of new surprises when Balamory returns in 2026.
