A body has been found near the River Beauly during the search for 76 year old Alasdair Fergusson, who was reported missing from the village in the early hours of Sunday.
Police Scotland confirmed the discovery on Sunday, 4 October, after an urgent appeal had been issued to help trace Alasdair following his disappearance from the Garden Place area of Beauly.
Formal identification has yet to take place, but Alasdair’s family have been informed of the discovery.
Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
Alasdair had last been seen in the Garden Place area at around 1.30am on Sunday, prompting growing concern when he did not return home or make contact with his family.
Earlier in the day, Sergeant Steve MacLennan had spoken of the urgency of finding him after he disappeared during a cold and dark night.
He said:
“We are growing increasingly concerned for Alasdair’s welfare and need to ensure he is safe and well.
“Given he was reported missing in the middle of the night when it was dark and cold, and hasn’t been in touch with his family since, it’s urgent we trace him as soon as we can.
“This is very out of character for Alasdair and I would ask anyone who has seen someone matching his description in the Beauly area to please get in touch as soon as possible.”
The search ended later on Sunday when the body of a man was found near the River Beauly.
Police have made clear that formal identification remains outstanding, and no further identification of the man has been confirmed at this stage.
