Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited (CMSL) is opening for its exciting winter season from Friday 22 December 2023.

The Snow Factory is already working and, alongside snow cannons, will ensure from the opening date that the beginners’ zone is guaranteed an even coverage of snow.

Skiers and snowboarders can easily reach the beginner slopes with the two ‘magic carpet’ conveyor belts and the twelve surface lifts will be operational once the mountain has full snow coverage.

The funicular railway is temporarily closed due to essential snagging works.

Although season passes are now sold out, day passes will be released ahead of the snowsports season opening at a reduced price whilst the funicular is out of service.

Equipment hire will also be available, including skis, snowboards, boots, poles, and helmets.

Visitors can unwind and make the most of après-ski at the Cairngorm Café and Cas Bar, located in the Day Lodge at the foot of the mountain.

Cosy up by the log burner and refuel with delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients, from warming homemade pies and soups to hearty sandwiches, as well as local beers and gins.

The Mountain Shop has also been refurbished and sells outdoor gear and gifts.

Once there is full snow coverage, the Ptarmigan Building will be open, which houses a 270° immersive exhibition space, a Learning Zone with 3D sandboxes, viewing platforms and the UK’s highest restaurant.

The Building includes the open-plan gin bar, a cosy log fire and floor-to-ceiling windows with beautiful views of the mountain range.

The resort offers free parking throughout the winter season in the refurbished main car park.

Susan Smith, CEO of CMSL, said:

“We look forward to welcoming back visitors for another snowsports season.

“While the funicular railway is temporarily closed, we will continue to do all we can to make Cairngorm Mountain the exciting destination it has always been.

“This season, visitors can enjoy the wide range of activities available at the resort, from skiing and snowboarding to dining in our cosy cafés and restaurants.”

Owned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and operated by the Cairngorm Mountain team, the resort is one of Scotland’s iconic locations and the railway makes the mountain environment accessible not only for snowsports enthusiasts, but visitors of all ages and abilities in every season of the year.

With environmental rangers who oversee the protection of the site and can offer insights on its unique nature, visitors can learn about the Cairngorms and Scotland’s mountain environment.
