Caithness’s stunning green spaces are taking centre stage in a new Nature Relaxation Film, celebrating local landscapes and promoting wellbeing.

The film, produced by the Species on the Edge conservation programme and Thurso-based Flow North Yoga and Wellbeing, will premiere on Sunday 2nd March.

A free launch event will be held at Flow North Studio in Thurso from 3 – 4pm, featuring a screening, talks from the film-makers and local organisations, a guided relaxation session, refreshments, and an opportunity to blend a personalised herbal teabag.

Iain Black of Flow North is offering a free 45-minute yoga session before the screening to mark the film’s completion and thank those involved.

The ten-minute film combines breathtaking footage of Caithness’s nature with a guided relaxation and showcases locations such as Dunnet Community Forest, RSPB Forsinard Flows, and Thurso Community Gardens.

The aim is to encourage people who may not feel confident about visiting nature spots to explore these areas with the support of staff and volunteers.

The film also supports the ‘Tools for Nature Relaxation’ workshop, a free 45-minute session offered to community groups in Caithness by Species on the Edge and Flow North.

Workshops cover:

  • Scientific insights into nature’s benefits for wellbeing.
  • Mindfulness techniques to enhance time spent outdoors.
  • Breathing exercises to relax the body and mind.
  • A screening of the ‘Caithness Nature Relaxation Film’ for those unable to get outside.

Places for these workshops are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Louise Senior, People Engagement Officer for Species on the Edge, highlights the importance of making meaningful connections with nature.

She explains that while being outdoors benefits wellbeing, many people struggle to slow down and truly appreciate the experience.

The workshops aim to provide practical tools to help participants get the most out of their time in nature.

Both the yoga session and film launch are free, but booking is required at bookwhen.com/flownorth.

Flow North Studio is located at 3 Grove Lane, Thurso, KW14 8AE, and access is via two flights of stairs.
