Community groups across Scotland are being encouraged to connect, share skills and grow their impact by joining Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network.
The network already brings together 248 community groups, offering free support, resources and national recognition to gardening and growing projects at every stage, from those just getting started to long established groups rooted in their local area.
It is designed to support community gardening that strengthens neighbourhoods while protecting nature, improving biodiversity and responding positively to the challenges of climate change.
Groups taking part receive access to initiatives including Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood, both free to join and focused on three core principles of horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and meaningful community participation.
Alongside recognition, the network also offers mentoring support, practical guidance, opportunities to attend events, and the chance to apply for awards that celebrate the work being done in communities across the country.
Juliette Camburn, Senior Officer for Community Initiatives at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said the network is powered by people who care deeply about where they live.
“The Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network is made up of hundreds of amazing groups and individuals who work tirelessly to make a positive difference to their community.
“As we celebrate 60 years of the Beautiful Scotland initiative, we would love to grow the network to more than 300 groups and shine a light on community gardening in as many places as possible.”
She said interest in community growing is widespread, with millions of adults keen to get involved, and stressed that experience is not a barrier to joining.
“Whether you are just starting out or have decades of experience to share, we need you in our network.
“Our shared goals include protecting and enhancing biodiversity, reducing the impacts of climate change, and making where people live more beautiful, resilient and nature friendly.”
Keep Scotland Beautiful will host a free online open session on Tuesday 24 February from 7pm to 8pm, giving groups and individuals the chance to learn more, meet others involved and speak with volunteers already part of the network.
Places can be booked by emailing cnfcn@keepscotlandbeautiful.org
Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood are both affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign, and registration is now open for new groups.
Keep Scotland Beautiful is also inviting people to volunteer as It’s Your Neighbourhood assessors and mentors, offering a chance to share skills, support communities and play a hands on role in strengthening local environmental action.
