Police are appealing for help tracing a 48 year old Czech woman who has been missing in Caithness since Tuesday 6 October, with specialist search teams involved in efforts to establish her whereabouts.

Zuzana Gabrisova, who is from the Czech Republic, was last seen at holiday accommodation in John O’Groats at approximately 4pm on Tuesday, prompting growing concern for her wellbeing.

She had arrived in Wick by train at around 5pm on Friday 2 October, several days before she was last seen.

Officers believe Zuzana may have travelled towards Sannick Bay, an area of coastline near John O’Groats, and extensive enquiries have been taking place in the surrounding area.

Police Scotland is being supported by the Coastguard, specialist dive and marine officers and local mountain rescue teams as efforts continue to establish what happened.

Zuzana is described as white, approximately 5ft 6ins tall, with brown curly hair.

Police do not know what clothing she was wearing when she disappeared, although she is believed to have been carrying walking equipment and a rucksack.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have encountered her while walking, travelling or visiting the area since Tuesday afternoon.

Inspector Daniel Jack said:

“We are very concerned for Zuzana’s wellbeing and we urge anyone who has seen her since 4pm on Tuesday, 6 October, to please contact us.

“We believe she headed to the Sannick Bay area and officers are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area, with support from the Coastguard, Dive and Marine Unit and local mountain rescue teams.

“Anyone with information that may assist our enquiry should contact 101, quoting incident number 1809 of Wednesday, 7 October, 2026.”

The appeal extends to residents, visitors and anyone who may have been walking along the coastline or travelling through John O’Groats and the surrounding communities.

Even a possible sighting or information about the direction Zuzana was travelling could help officers establish her movements.

Police have not confirmed what happened after she was last seen or provided any further information about her intended movements.
