A helicopter is pictured delivering essential materials to one of Scotland’s most remote castles, as conservation work began at Auchindoun Castle.

Helicopter deliveries, took place at the 15th century site to transport scaffolding and other equipment to the ruin, to facilitate repairs following high level masonry inspections, which looked at the impact of climate change on the site in combination with other factors.

The remote castle, which can usually only be reached by foot, posed access challenges due to its location and terrain, with delivery only made possible by airlift.

This vital transportation activity will allow Historic Environment Scotland’s specialist conservation teams to carry out necessary repairs to help facilitate the safe reopening of the site to visitors in the future.
