Council Seeks Tenants Views on Rent for 2024/25

The Highland Council are inviting all tenants to have their say on the rent levels for the year ahead.

They encourage everyone that lives in a council house to take this chance to have their say, the results of this will have a direct impact on the services we are able to deliver next year and in the future.

Tenants rent money pays for repairs, maintenance and improvements making it vital that the Council has enough funds to carry out these essential tasks.

Housing and Property Committee Chair, Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair said:

“Each year the Council reaches out to all its tenants to offer a variety of ways to participate in the rent consultation. This will assist our decision making when setting rent levels for the coming year.

“The Highland Council rents are below the national average and the consultation assists with prioritising what services are most important to tenants while keeping rents as affordable as possible.

“With the ongoing Cost-of-Living Crisis it’s never been more important to receive feedback from tenants on rent levels and we encourage all tenants to participate over the coming weeks, the survey is open now and closes on 11 December 2023.

“A formal decision on the 2024/25 rent level will be made at the Housing & Property Committee on 31 January 2024.”

Tenants have been sent an email, text message or letter detailing the options for the rent increase.

Tenants can follow links to the online survey and for those that don’t have access to complete the survey online there is a dedicated phone number so they can speak to a member of the tenant participation team between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
