Nairn Academy celebrated a major milestone of service by one of their employees this week as Davie Hay (pictured) marked 40 years of service with the school.

Julie Macdonald, Head Teacher at Nairn Academy said:

“As a parent and a colleague, he has worked across a number of departments including Chemistry, Guidance, Technology and latterly Chemistry/Biology.

“He was also a driving force behind our initial rural skills course 12 years ago.

“He has always volunteered to support whole school events with a particular expertise in our stage lighting and sound for awards, talent shows.

“Even with his retirement 4 years ago, Davie has continued to support the school as a Supply Teacher.

“His support of pupils and staff has been very much appreciated over the years.

“Dedicating 40 years to Nairn Academy is a significant achievement which the Nairn Academy community wanted to mark and send our thanks and congratulations.”

“As well as presenting Davie with a few gifts, he was also able to have a trip down memory lane having a read through the school daily logbook from 1981-82 school year.”

Davie Hay said:

“Today is my 40th Anniversary of starting at Nairn Academy.

“Most of the time it seems just like yesterday – how time flies when you are enjoying yourself!

“I’ve been in the school today with helium balloons, a ruby wedding sash and a 40-today badge attached to my person.

“The Senior Management Team at the school have been determined to make it a memorable day for me!”

Cllr John Finlayson Chair of Highland Council’s Education Committee congratulated Davie – he said:

“I commend Davie on his amazing level of dedication and service to Nairn Academy and the whole school community.

“The legacy of pupils that he has taught must be remarkable – of which, one pupil I understand went on to become an Area Education Manager for The Highland Council!

“Well done Davie and even though you are retired your commitment remains.”
