The former Mackinnon Memorial Hospital in Broadford on the Isle of Skye is set to be demolished before the end of March 2026 following the transfer of the site from NHS Highland to The Highland Council.
The site has remained empty since the opening of the new Broadford Hospital in 2022, with plans now moving forward to clear the land for future development.
Highland Council has been in discussion with NHS Highland and the Mackinnon Memorial Hospital Working Group to explore how the site can be used to support local needs.
Early plans focus on creating accommodation for staff working in health and social care, alongside wider opportunities to strengthen services in the area.
Council members and officers have been working closely with the local community group, with discussions described as constructive and focused on long term benefit.
The site has been identified as having strong potential to help address local housing pressures, particularly for key workers supporting essential services.
Community consultation is expected to form part of the planning process as proposals develop.

The demolition marks the next stage in reshaping the site, with a focus on supporting housing, healthcare and community needs in Broadford and the surrounding area.
