Douglas ‘Brass-Neck’ Ross Outlines Laughable Economic Strategy

The SNP has branded Douglas Ross’s attempt to launch an economic strategy “laughable” – after he backed former Prime Minister Liz Truss’s disastrous mini-budget, which crashed the economy, led to higher mortgage rates and soaring food prices, and made the cost-of-living crisis worse for millions of Scots.

Responding to Douglas Ross’ speech, the SNP’s economy spokesperson, Stewart Hosie MP said:

“Voters across Scotland will notice the irony in Douglas Ross’ comments – the party that brought you Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng – rambling on about delivering economic prosperity for Scotland.

“It was Douglas Ross’ party who crashed the economy and unleashed economic carnage, leading to higher mortgages rates, soaring food prices, and exacerbating the cost of living crisis after dragging Scotland out of the EU; they are not be the party to fix it.

“However, what Mr Ross ironically failed to mention was the biggest reason for economic decline in the UK: Brexit. It’s frankly laughable.

“While both Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer continue to bury their head in the sand, only the SNP are willing to call out Brexit for what it is: economic vandalism.

“Only the SNP are offering voters in Scotland a real alternative through independence – which would rid us of Westminster governments we do not vote for, and put the key financial levers in the hands of the democratically elected Scottish Government.”
