Douglas Ross Silence Deafening as Scotland Undermined by Truss

The SNP has called out Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross for a “deafening” week of silence in response to crass comments made by the predicted winner of the Tory leadership race.

Speaking to Tory party members at a leadership hustings on Monday, Liz Truss said she would “ignore” the democratically elected First Minister of Scotland – while offering no solutions to the Tory-made cost of living crisis, that is set to throw thousands of households in Scotland into severe hardship.

Kirsten Oswald MP said:

“Douglas Ross is never usually one to hide his views – but his silence over the last week has been deafening while the predicted future Prime Minister threw the hard-fought-for devolution settlement to the wolves of the Tory right.

“It’s always the same with the Tories – they’ve never cared about Scotland but this brazen attack on Scotland’s institutions shows their clear intent to play to the hardliners rather than the country.

“But Douglas Ross can’t continue to sit on his hands while his Westminster cronies throw Scotland under the bus.

“People are terrified to open their bills as energy tariffs skyrocket but Liz Truss has shown her priority is to obsess over personal attacks and undermine democratic institutions.

“These tactics are straight from the Trump playbook.

“Soon, Scotland will have the opportunity to escape the chaos of Westminster control for good.

“It’s only with the full powers of independence that Scotland can realise its full potential and get rid of the Tories once and for all.”
