There was no shortage of drama across the shinty fields this past weekend as the Ferguson Transport & Shipping Balliemore Cup and Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup delivered upsets, walkovers and plenty of goals.

In a tense Balliemore Cup clash on Bute, Inveraray squeezed past the hosts on penalties after a 1–1 draw, progressing thanks to some clinical spot kicks and composure under pressure.

Dean Robertson and Euan Donnan got on the scoresheet for Bute and Inveraray respectively, but the talking point was a red card for Cameron MacMillan which tipped the balance.

Elsewhere, Col Glen overcame Glasgow Mid Argyll in a fiery contest, while Kilmory were forced to forfeit their tie against Lochaber after failing to field a side.

Oban Celtic were ruthless in their 10–0 demolition of Ardnamurchan, with Calum McLay hitting four and Simon Patterson adding to the tally with an own goal.

Kilmallie cruised past Glenurquhart 6–2, while Kyles Athletic emerged narrow 2–1 winners over Beauly.

Newtonmore showed their pedigree with a 6–0 masterclass against Aberdeen University in the Sutherland Cup, Xander Ross netting a hat-trick and Glen MacKintosh also on target.

Kinlochshiel edged past Skye after a 2–2 stalemate, clinching a dramatic 5–4 victory on penalties despite two red cards in a bruising affair.

Lochside Rovers knocked out Fort William 2–1, while Glasgow Mid Argyll put six past Tayforth, with Matt Rippon grabbing a brace.

Bute bounced back with a 4–3 win over Inveraray after extra time, with Angus MacInnes sealing it in the 119th minute.

In the Mowi Premiership, Oban Camanachd kept pace with a 3–2 win over Skye, while Newtonmore stunned Fort William 5–2 with Iain Robinson scoring twice.

In the lower leagues, Beauly and Inverness served up a thrilling 3–3 draw in the North Division 1, while Lochcarron and Strachur-Dunoon were both held to 2–2 draws in their respective fixtures.

The youth scene also sparkled, with Newtonmore’s Joe Coyle grabbing seven in a 17–2 rout of Caberfeidh in the Under 17 MacTavish Trophy.

In the Under 14 leagues, Kingussie and Glasgow Mid Argyll recorded huge wins, with standout performances from Joep Mommertz and Ethan Latimer respectively.

Meanwhile, the women’s game continued to flourish.

Badenoch outclassed Strathspey 7–1, with Lexi Farquhar leading the line, while Tayforth were rampant in an 8–2 win against Inveraray, powered by Siobhain Lane’s six-goal haul.

As ever, shinty delivered everything from last-gasp winners to teenage prodigies making headlines.

With the season heating up, every goal and card matters now.
