Police in the Western Isles have recovered drugs with an estimated street value of more than £87,000 following a series of enforcement operations in Barra and Stornoway.

On Friday 17 October, officers attended a property on Barra where cannabis plants valued at around £7,200 were seized.

A 68-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the recovery, and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Three days later, on Monday 20 October, officers executed search warrants at two properties in Stornoway.

No arrests were made at that stage, and enquiries remain ongoing.

Further action on Friday 24 October led to the recovery of cocaine with an estimated street value of £80,000 from a property on Seaforth Road in Stornoway.

Chief Inspector Ross McCartney said the seizures underline Police Scotland’s commitment to tackling drug crime across the islands.

“These recoveries highlight our determination to target dangerous and illegal drugs in our local communities,” he said.

“They also show our support for the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and Scotland’s national strategy to disrupt criminal networks.”

He said the focus remains on protecting the public by stopping drugs at their source and preventing their manufacture and distribution.

“Information from the public is crucial,” he said.

“We will continue to act on any intelligence received and encourage anyone with information or concerns to contact us on 101, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police Scotland has reaffirmed that tackling the drugs trade remains one of its highest priorities, with a focus on community safety, enforcement, and prevention.
