EDP Renewables have awarded two cash prizes to students on courses with UHI North, West and Hebrides on Skye this year.

EDP Renewables is committed to supporting local communities and aims to preserve strong and lasting relationships with local communities and has recently been supporting events and activities on Skye.
Two students were selected from UHI North, West and Hebrides centres on the Isle of Skye to receive prizes at the end of their year.
Alex McCauley studied Outdoor Adventure at the college’s campus in Broadford and Amy Robertson studied HNC Business based in Portree.
Both students received £600 as a cash prize and EDP generously also funded some end of year celebrations as the students were presented with their certificates.
Alex said:
“Winning this award came as a total surprise, I didn’t even know I had been nominated.
“It’s been a fantastic year learning new skills and adjusting to a totally different environment away from my hometown of Edinburgh.
“I was just delighted to be able to share the celebration with the classmates I’ve spent the last year with and to have had such a beautiful day really topped it all off.
“I’m very grateful to EDP for such a generous cash award too and will be spending some of it towards getting my Mountain Leader Training to pursue more adventures in future.”
Alex plans to that he is going to progress to the next level of his course which is Outdoor Leadership at Level 6 and is based in Fort William.
Amy said:
“Studying the HNC Business course at UHI North, West and Hebrides, Portree has been a fantastic experience.
“My favourite part of the course was economics, even though it was the most challenging subject, it challenged me academically and helped me explore a part of business I wouldn’t have normally chosen.
“I’m planning to use the prize money to buy a new laptop for university, where I’ll be continuing my studies in business.
The staff both online and in Portree college centre were all amazing and friendly, and the online platform made it really easy to contact them and ask questions whenever I needed help.
I also met people I never would’ve met otherwise, which made the experience even better.
This course has definitely helped me feel more prepared and excited for what’s next.”
Applications for a wide range of courses starting in September across the college’s 19 campuses and centres are now open, visit: Courses – UHI North, West and Hebrides for more information.
