SNP candidate for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, Eilidh Munro, has set out her priorities for the months ahead as Scotland moves toward the next Holyrood election in May.
With six months to go, Munro says her campaign will focus on fairness, opportunity and community, tackling energy costs, improving essential infrastructure, and supporting families across the Highlands.
At the top of her list is the fight for a fairer energy system to bring down household bills for Highland residents, alongside the need for faster progress on major local projects such as the new Belford Hospital, new school buildings in Broadford and Dunvegan, and long-awaited road upgrades across the constituency.
As a parent of two young children, Munro says she also wants to see better access to affordable childcare in both rural and urban areas, and stronger recruitment and retention of social care workers to ensure people can receive proper support in their own communities.
“Over the course of this campaign, I’m looking forward to setting out my vision for the kind of Scotland we want to create, a place where every child has the best possible start in life; where communities have real control over the land they live on; and where we can use our country’s rich resources for the good of everyone in society,” she said.
Munro praised the SNP’s record in government, pointing to progress on key local and national initiatives despite the challenges created by UK policy decisions.
“The SNP has achieved a lot already while in power, despite the negative impact of poor decisions taken at Westminster, particularly around energy, welfare, and economic policy,” she said.
“Locally, we have delivered significant progress as well, from capital projects like the new hospital in Aviemore to broader support for households, such as the 17,000 baby boxes to help new parents across the Highlands.”
Munro said she has already been meeting with businesses, residents and local organisations across the region, listening to their concerns and priorities for the future.
“It’s been brilliant getting out and about across the constituency already, hearing from businesses, individuals and local organisations about their priorities,” she said.
“If elected in May, I will ensure that voices across our Highlands and Islands are heard loud and clear at Holyrood.
“I’m looking forward to engaging directly with as many folk as possible over the next six months.”
With her campaign now under way, Munro says she wants to represent a confident, community-driven Highlands, one that uses its natural and human energy to power a fairer Scotland for all.
