Elk Calf Named at Highland Wildlife Park

A three-month-old European elk born at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park has been named Egret by keepers. Picture © RZSS

Staff at the wildlife conservation charity chose the bird themed name with the female calf’s dad, Raven, in mind.

Sadly, keepers found mum Cas unresponsive one morning earlier this month and, after exhausting all alternatives, veterinary teams advised she should be put to sleep to prevent her suffering.

The youngster is doing well, weighing at 53kg, and can be seen in the park’s drive-through reserve eating willow and spending time with her dad.
