Ullapool High School is celebrating the end of the academic year on a high after receiving the highest honour available through sportscotland’s School Sport Award programme.
The school has achieved the prestigious Gold School Sport Award in recognition of its commitment to placing sport and physical activity at the centre of school life and creating opportunities for young people to participate, lead and succeed.
The achievement was marked during a special end of term assembly attended by staff, pupils and community partners, with local MSP Maree Todd joining celebrations to recognise both the award and the sporting successes enjoyed by pupils throughout the year.
The Gold School Sport Award is the highest level of recognition available through the national programme and is presented to schools that demonstrate excellence across physical education, school sport, leadership opportunities and pathways that encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.
For Ullapool High School, the award reflects years of work to create an environment where pupils feel supported to get involved, try new activities and develop confidence through sport.
It also highlights the important role physical activity plays beyond competition, helping young people build friendships, improve wellbeing and develop skills that can benefit them throughout their lives.
The recognition comes as schools across the Highlands continue to place greater emphasis on encouraging active lifestyles and widening access to sporting opportunities for young people of all abilities and backgrounds.
At Ullapool High School, participation and inclusion have become key themes, with pupils supported to take on leadership roles, represent their school and discover activities they can continue long after they leave the classroom.
The award is also a reflection of the efforts made by staff, volunteers and community partners who have helped create a culture where sport is seen as an important part of education rather than simply an extracurricular activity.
Securing Gold status places Ullapool High School among a select group of schools recognised for delivering exceptional opportunities in sport and physical activity.
For pupils preparing to begin their summer break, it provides a fitting way to end the school year and celebrates a shared commitment to helping young people lead healthier, more active and more confident lives.
