Eric De Venny Selected for East Sutherland and Edderton By Election

The Scottish Liberal Democrats have selected Eric De Venny as their candidate for the East Sutherland and Edderton by election taking place on 25 June.

De Venny, who lives in Dornoch with his family, is a local publican, former proprietor of the Eagle Hotel and currently serves on his local community council.

His selection comes following the recent Holyrood victory of David Green as the party attempts to build momentum in the area ahead of the by election.

Eric De Venny said:

“I’m proud to be standing for the community where my family and I live.

“Through my work on the community council, I’ve seen first hand the issues people face and the difference strong local representation can make.

“As an elected councillor, I will work tirelessly to tackle the problems that matter most to residents, from fixing potholes and improving safety on the A9, to fighting for fairer healthcare and better social care.

“I will also stand up for our coastal communities and push for the flood defences we need to protect our villages.

“I also want to see a better deal for our schools, with improved resources for teachers and real investment in our school buildings, as well as action to deliver better housing for local people.”

Richard Gale, the incumbent Liberal Democrat councillor for East Sutherland and Edderton, said:

“Our communities need strong local representation that will keep fighting for better housing, improved infrastructure, safer roads, stronger healthcare services and proper flood defences for our coastal villages.

“As a community councillor and local business owner, I know that Eric is the right man for the job and will fight tirelessly for this area on Highland Council.

“He understands the challenges facing our communities and will be a strong local voice for residents.”

David Green MSP said:

“Eric De Venny is exactly the kind of hardworking, community focused candidate that East Sutherland and Edderton deserves.

“He has deep roots in the area and a genuine commitment to improving people’s lives.

“Following our recent success at Holyrood, it’s clear that the Liberal Democrats are the main challengers to the SNP here.

“People are backing us because they want action on local issues and a strong voice that will stand up for their communities.

“I know Eric will be a fantastic councillor who will work tirelessly for residents and deliver real results.”

The by election will take place on 25 June as voters across East Sutherland and Edderton choose a replacement following the resignation of long serving councillor Jim McGilvray.
