Essential Roadworks Underway on The A82 North of Invergarry

Must read

Work to continue for further two weeks, with overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm – 6am, excluding Friday and Saturday nights.

An essential project to upgrade the A82 near Invergarry is underway this week which involves resurfacing the trunk road at two locations.

The £550,000 overnight project will address almost 3km of carriageway across two sections of the A82 north of Invergarry, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

The overnight project began this week and is programmed to be completed by 6am on Wednesday 8 June.

The surfacing improvements will take place between 8pm and 6am each night with no works taking place on Friday or Saturday nights.

To keep roadworkers as well as road users safe during the project, an overnight road closure will be in place over the extent of the project during working hours due to the narrow road widths on this section of the A82.

To help minimise disruption, a diversion will be in place via the A87 and A887 between Invergarry and Invermoriston.

The road will be open during the day however a 30mph speed limit will be in place as road users will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

New safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services, local residents and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance of work taking place.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said:

“The £550,000 surfacing improvements will help address the defects on this section of the A82 and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“We’ve changed our ways of working to ensure all staff and the local community are kept safe at all times, and all personnel will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Guidance.

“Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations have been implemented on site to ensure all staff remain safe.

“It is essential this work is completed so that the A82 can be repaired and ensure the trunk road network remains safe for key workers, deliveries and those making essential journeys.

“Due to the narrow road widths, it is essential we close the road to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.

“We’ve also arranged for the work to take place over night to help limit the impact on residents and motorists.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out the project.

“Our teams will do all they can to ensure that this project is completed as quickly and as safely as possible.”
