Etape Loch Ness will return to the Highlands on Sunday the 26th of April 2026, with the UK’s largest sportive already sold out months in advance as demand reaches record levels.
Thousands of cyclists are now set to descend on Inverness and the surrounding area to take on the iconic 66 mile route around Loch Ness, in what organisers say will be the biggest edition of the event to date.
The closed road challenge has become one of the standout fixtures in the UK cycling calendar, drawing riders of all abilities with its mix of stunning scenery, physical challenge and unmistakable Highland atmosphere.
This year also marks a significant milestone for the event’s long standing partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, with more than 1,000 participants riding in aid of the charity.
Since the partnership began in 2014, riders have raised £2.62 million to support the 3.5 million people living with cancer across the UK, adding a powerful sense of purpose to the event.
Malcolm Sutherland, Chief Executive of Caledonian Concepts, said:
“The continued demand for Etape Loch Ness is incredible to see.
“To have the event sell out once again, and to welcome over 1000 Macmillan riders, shows just how special this sportive has become.
“The combination of a world-class route, the unique Highland setting, and the opportunity to ride for such an important cause continues to attract cyclists from across the UK and around the world.
“2026 is shaping up to be our biggest and most exciting event yet.
Participants will tackle a 66 mile route featuring around 900 metres of climbing, including the well known King and Queen of the Mountain ascent from Fort Augustus.
The climb stretches for 4.8 miles with gradients reaching up to 12%, offering a serious test even for experienced riders while remaining an achievable goal for those taking on the challenge for the first time.
The appeal of Etape Loch Ness lies not just in the physical effort but in the experience itself, with fully closed roads allowing cyclists to ride through one of Scotland’s most famous landscapes without traffic.
From the shores of Loch Ness to the finish line in Inverness, the event delivers a rare blend of freedom, spectacle and shared achievement that continues to bring riders back year after year.
With record participation, strong charity support and global interest, the 2026 edition is already shaping up to be a landmark moment for one of Scotland’s most recognisable sporting events.
Etape Loch Ness returns in April 2026 as the sold out event prepares to welcome thousands of riders to the Highlands, combining challenge, scenery and charity in one of the UK’s most celebrated cycling sportives.
