The Faroe Islands have emerged as one of Europe’s most Celtic FC-obsessed countries, according to a new analysis of Google search data.

A study led by iGaming expert and former pro footballer Martynas Norvilas reveals that, per capita, the Faroese rank sixth across Europe for interest in Celtic-related search terms in 2025.

Using terms like “Celtic Champions League”“Celtic Europa Conference League”, and “Celtic Europa League highlights”, the study compared average monthly search volume with 2025 population estimates across the continent.

The Faroe Islands logged 89 monthly searches per 100,000 people, nearly double the European average of 45.

While that equates to just 50 searches from a population of around 56,000, it signals an outsized passion for the Glasgow club in this North Atlantic nation.

“According to the data, the Faroe Islands is among the top European countries that are obsessed with Celtic FC,” said Norvilas, who has over 20 years of experience in football and iGaming journalism.

“This data suggests that Celtic’s global reach continues to expand, and microstates are no exception.

“Enthusiasm for the club is becoming increasingly decentralised.

“Marketers and broadcasters might want to note: audience attention isn’t always where the population centres are, it’s where the passion is.”

While traditional footballing powerhouses dominate the headlines, the research highlights Celtic’s loyal following in smaller nations.

The findings suggest a deep cultural and emotional pull far beyond Glasgow’s East End.

The study also hints at opportunities for broadcasters and clubs to tap into unexpected global corners, where football allegiance can run deep, no matter the geography.
