A mini ‘last minute’ fundraising concert for Ukraine is taking place this Sunday afternoon at Badaguish Outdoor Centre, Aviemore, organised by Fèis Spè, on the back of their bands’ residential weekend, which kicks off on Friday evening.
The two bands – Monadh Ruadh and Junior Band – made up of talented youngsters from P6 through to S6 from the local area, will be performing with their fabulous weekend music tutors at the event on Sunday 27th March from 2.30-4pm.
Appearing alongside the Fèis Spè musicians will be piano supremo Mhairi Hall, fiddlers Ewen Henderson of Manran and Sharon Hassan, as well as Fèis Spè bands leader Charlie McKerron of Capercaillie and Session A9 fame.
The residential weekend for Monadh Ruadh and Junior Band is the first joint residential weekend the bands have had since before the first lockdown.
The busy weekend always ends with a short concert for family members – but this time, the concert is being opened up to the public with entry by donation and all proceeds going to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.
Fèis Spè Chairperson Elspeth Blackshaw said:
“The war in Ukraine is so dreadful and as a wee organisation in the Highlands we felt we wanted to do our bit to raise some much-needed funds.
“So what better way to lift the spirits than with some fantastic trad music in beautiful surroundings this weekend.
“And it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday – so what not treat your Mum to an afternoon of entertainment from some exceedingly good musical talent.
“All we ask of people is that they make a donation for their entry fee and for refreshments. We look forward to welcoming you all to Badaguish on Sunday.”
