The full programme for the 2025 Shetland Climate Festival has been revealed, promising a vibrant, hands-on day of workshops, exhibitions, and family activities at the Clickimin Bowls Hall on Saturday 13 September.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the festival will feature more than 20 exhibitors, a youth-led book and film launch, and a packed schedule of talks and interactive events aimed at tackling climate change through community action.
Now in its third year, the festival is designed to be both informative and inspiring.
Last year’s event welcomed over 350 people, and this year’s edition is set to be even bigger.
Among the headline events is the premiere of a new school climate roadshow film and the launch of a companion book titled Climate Change From a Young Person’s Perspective.
The book features poems, illustrations, and short stories drawn from Shetland’s first school climate roadshow, offering a vivid insight into the climate crisis through the eyes of local pupils.
“This is the third year of the Shetland Climate Festival and it’s a real community and family event,” said Elizabeth Clarke, Climate Change Strategy Officer with Shetland Islands Council.
“We’ll have a mix of exhibitors, so people can learn about climate change from a Shetland perspective but also come away with lots of practical tips and ideas too.”
Organisations taking part include RSPB, NatureScot, Home Energy Scotland, Warmworks, Arven Offshore Wind Farm, Shetland Islands Council and ESB, developers of the Stoura Wind Farm, who are supporting this year’s festival.
Workshops will cover a wide range of topics, including an update on the Brae Rural Energy Hub, understanding the UK energy market with Shetland Aerogenerators, and the role of biodiversity in climate resilience with the RSPB.
The Highland and Islands Climate Hub will run a community marketplace from the Bowlers’ Bar, showcasing grassroots climate initiatives across Shetland.
For younger attendees, the festival offers face painting, a scavenger hunt, and an environment-themed Bookbug session, ensuring a day that’s fun and educational for the whole family.
