Hotel packages and special events sharing tales of the Highlands launched as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022.

Black Sheep Hotels has launched a series of storytelling events and hotel packages, where guests will be able to hear traditional tales of the Highlands, as well as Halloween and Christmas stories, from popular local storyteller Lizzie McDougall.

Taking place in Scotland’s Year of Stories, throughout October and November at The Whispering Pine Lodge in Spean Bridge and Rokeby Manor in Invergarry, Lizzie will tell stories that will inspire and strengthen connections to Highland culture, nature and the environment.

Events include ‘Tales of the Scottish Highlands’, ‘Tales and Traditions of Scottish Halloween’ and ‘Christmas Tales and Christmas Craft Making’.

Speaking about the events, storyteller Lizzie McDougall said:

“I am delighted to bring the magic of Storytelling to Black Sheep Hotels especially in this special Year of Stories.

“I am fascinated by Highland folktales and folklore and have gathered tales from the oral tradition that have been passed on from generation to generation.

“The richness of these stories inspired me to create The Highland Story Quilts to illustrate over 100 of them.

“I am looking forward to sharing the stories with everyone, whether they’re local or visiting this beautiful area, and hope that the stories with their mix of Highland history, mystery and folklore will enhance their enjoyment and experience of the area.”

In addition to storytelling events, a number of other winter packages have also been launched by Black Sheep Hotels.

Highlights include its ‘Prelude to Christmas’ package, where guests will hear festive stories and create their own Christmas cake mix to take away; a ‘Girls’ Getaway Weekend’, where guests can enjoy their own cabin with dinner and discounts on spa treatments; or visitors can take advantage of a third night free when they book two nights at The Whispering Pine Lodge, Rokeby Manor or Cluanie Inn.

Saket Gupta from Black Sheep Hotels said:

“The Highlands is a magical place throughout the year, so we want guests to enjoy it this winter.

“So even when the nights get a little darker, there will still be plenty for guests to do, whether that’s listening to fantastic stories from the region or enjoying a spa treatment or drink at the bar with friends.”

Storytelling events will be held at The Whispering Pine Lodge on 22nd and 29th October and 5th November, and at Rokeby Manor on 23rd and 30th October and 6th November 2022.
