Children from Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar enjoyed a week of language, laughter and outdoor learning in Fort William, thanks to a special Gaelic medium playscheme run by Highland Council.
Hosted by Stramash outdoor nursery, the initiative brought together pupils from Gaelic Medium Education in a rich and playful natural setting one where Gaelic was spoken freely and joyfully among friends.
The programme was supported by Gaelic-speaking staff from both the nursery and the school, creating a fully immersive language environment across the 50-acre site.
Set among woodland, fruit trees, crops growing under polytunnels, and a cosy storytelling hut, the children explored the outdoors while deepening their connection to the language.
Mairi Duncan, Practice Lead at Stramash and a former Gaelic Medium pupil herself, said it had been a joy to see Gaelic used so naturally.
“It’s been a pleasure for Stramash and Highland Council to work together, promoting the benefits of the outdoor environment through the Gaelic language,” she said.
“And to hear the children using Gaelic with their friends in such a free and natural way, that’s what it’s all about.”
The weather, she added, was the icing on the cake.
