Garden Waste Permits Now Available for Moray Residents

Garden waste permits for the 2026 to 2027 collection year are now available for residents across Moray.

Householders are being encouraged to order their permits by 6 March 2026 to guarantee delivery before the new collection year begins on 1 April.

The permit must be clearly displayed on brown bins containing garden waste, with a separate permit required for each additional garden waste bin.

Bins that contain only food waste do not require a permit.

Permits ordered by the 6 March deadline will be delivered in time for 1 April, with permits issued in batches from the week beginning 23 March.

The cost of a garden waste permit is £54, and permits can be ordered online at any time of the year.

All permits are valid from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027 and cannot be transferred between properties.

There are no brown bin garden waste collections between Christmas and New Year.

Residents can also dispose of garden waste free of charge at household waste recycling centres or choose to compost garden waste at home.

Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee at Moray Council, Marc Macrae, said:

“Anyone planning to buy a garden waste permit this year should do so before 6 March so it’s ready to use from 1 April.

“The small increase in cost this year helps us recover more of the expense involved in running the service.

“Garden waste collection isn’t something councils are required to provide, so we have to carefully balance the rising cost of operating the service with the benefit it brings to residents.

“Some councils no longer offer garden waste collection at all, and others are reducing their service or increasing charges this year to manage costs.

“We’re pleased to be able to continue providing this valued service in Moray, and we hope residents see the benefit of having a permit for their convenience.”
