Glenmorangie is opening its Tain distillery free of charge for a special weekend of tours, whisky tastings and opportunities to meet the people who make one of the Highlands’ best known single malts.
Visitors on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October will also have the rare chance to fill and roll a cask themselves as the distillery gives guests a closer look at the work normally carried out behind the scenes.
Distillery Manager Ed Thom will lead tastings featuring some of Glenmorangie’s most popular whiskies, while visitors will be able to explore the production process and discover more about the craft involved in making the Tain spirit.
The cask filling experience will put guests briefly in the shoes of the distillery team, with the opportunity to fill and roll a cask of Glenmorangie single malt in a task normally left to the people working on site.
Some of those craftspeople, known as the Distillers of Tain, will host special Meet the Makers tours and share their experiences of working at the distillery.
There will also be a little Hollywood thrown into the weekend, with the team talking about appearing alongside Harrison Ford when the actor came to the Highlands to film Glenmorangie’s Once Upon a Time in Scotland campaign in 2024.
The campaign put Glenmorangie’s real distillery workers alongside Ford and the whisky itself, with the Hollywood star also staying at Glenmorangie House during his time in the Highlands.
The Glenmorangie House team will join the open weekend too, serving teas, coffees and home baking and offering visitors a taste of the Highland hospitality Ford experienced during his stay.
The event forms part of Les Journees Particulieres, a programme created by Glenmorangie’s parent group LVMH which opens the doors of its businesses and celebrates the skills of the people working within them.
This year’s programme includes 69 venues across 13 countries, spanning everything from fashion and jewellery to wine and spirits, with visitors invited to discover the craftsmanship involved free of charge.
Ed Thom said:
“We love welcoming locals and visitors to the Distillery to explore our craft, meet our people, and taste our elegant whiskies.
