Graduates Encouraged to Apply for Council Internships

Recent graduates who are either unemployed or not in graduate-level work are invited to apply for a paid internship with Shetland Islands Council.

The Council is offering two six-month internships for graduates to have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

The posts are supported by the Graduate Career Advantage Scotland (GCAS) initiative, helping recent, eligible graduates living in Scotland to find rewarding employment.

The two internship posts would be Project Officers – one working in Council’s Climate Change Strategy team to develop a project on changing transport needs in Shetland; and the other based in the Council’s Human Resources team, to carry out research and deliver key actions of the Council’s workforce strategy.

Applicants must meet the GCAS eligibility criteria for these posts, which include: being a recent graduate from no earlier than summer 2019, in either a Dip HE, undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD level of study; being currently unemployed or employed in a non-graduate level role that does not fit their career plan; and aged 29 or under.

Denise Bell, Executive Manager – Human Resources, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for two recent graduates to work with the Council for a six-month internship.

“Developing our use of graduate opportunities is part of the Council’s workforce strategy as we recognise the contributions that they bring.

“We’d encourage anyone who meets the eligibility criteria to consider applying.”

More detail on the two posts and a link to make an application is available on the MyJobScotland portal by clicking here.

The closing date for applications for either post is 5pm on Tuesday 3rd May 2022.
