Homeowners across Argyll and Bute are being urged to act now and take advantage of a generous grant scheme designed to make homes warmer, greener, and more affordable to run.

Argyll and Bute Council has secured over £2 million from the Scottish Government’s Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Scheme, offering residents the chance to apply for non-means tested grants of between £9,500 and £21,600.

The money can be used to fund a range of energy-saving home improvements, including external wall insulation, underfloor and loft insulation, and cavity wall insulation.

The scheme is open to:

  • Homeowners and private tenants living in Council Tax Bands A to C
  • Owner-occupiers in Band D properties with a household energy rating of E, F or G
  • On the islands, owner-occupiers in Band E to H homes may also qualify, depending on their energy rating

Councillor Jim Lynch, Policy Lead for Housing, said the benefits for households could be considerable and in many cases, completely free of charge.

“I don’t think people realise that their home could benefit from a range of energy efficiency improvements through the scheme, in most cases at no cost to themselves,” he said.

“Hundreds of homes in Argyll and Bute have already benefitted, making real savings on fuel bills and enjoying warmer, more comfortable homes.”

He added that the programme also supports the wider goal of creating a climate-friendly Argyll and Bute, helping reduce carbon emissions across the region.

“With heating costs a major concern, this kind of support can make a real difference,” said Councillor Lynch.

“Fuel poverty is a real issue for many households, and I would urge anyone who thinks they might qualify to get in touch and find out how they could benefit.”

Home Energy Scotland is the official referral partner for the scheme.

They will assess the property’s current energy rating, offer free advice, and refer qualifying households directly to the programme.

In addition, Home Energy Scotland will carry out a wider energy-saving assessment, offering helpful tips and guidance for reducing energy use.
