Scottish Greens Tourism Spokesperson and Highlands Islands MSP John Finnie (pictured) has this afternoon called for the Scottish Government to ensure that trade unions are involved in discussions about restarting the tourism industry to ensure that fair work terms are put on the agenda.

Questioning the Scottish Government in parliament Mr Finnie highlighted the importance of the tourism sector to the Highlands and Islands region, where it accounts for 15% of jobs, almost double the national average.

Commenting afterward, Scottish Greens Highlands and Islands MSP John Finnie said:

“The current crisis has devastated the tourism sector, which so many in the Highlands and Islands rely on for work.

“It is vital that as the Scottish Government plans for the restart of this important sector that it ensures that fair work practices are put at the forefront of its plan.

“With tourism playing such an important economic role it is vital that this sector works for communities, workers and businesses.

“That must start by the government ensuring that all those who work in this essential industry receive a commitment to fair pay and good working conditions as the sector gets plans back up and running.”
