Highland Council has opened a consultation on the future of Cromarty’s East Church Hall, giving residents until 29 September to share their views on a proposal to transform the historic building into a community hub.
The hall, part of Cromarty’s common good assets, has drawn interest from the Cromarty Community Development Trust, which hopes to lease the property and its grounds for 25 years.
Their vision is to breathe new life into the hall, turning it into a multi‑functional space for local events, activities and services, while preserving its heritage at the heart of the town.
During the lease period, the Cromarty Common Good Fund would receive income at current market rates.
Should the project succeed, the Trust has expressed interest in acquiring the hall outright in the future.
Highland Council says all views will be considered before any decision is made.
If the proposal moves forward following consultation, the Council must seek the consent of the Sheriff Court, as required by law for changes to common good property.
Further planning permissions and statutory consents would also be needed before redevelopment could begin.
