Visitors to Inverness Botanic Gardens & Cafe can experience the sights, wildlife and atmosphere of Scotland’s coastline this autumn through a new exhibition by Highland artist Renate Jephcott.
Littoral Aspects, Jephcott’s third solo exhibition at the Inverness attraction, is now running until the end of October and is free to view during the gardens’ normal opening hours.
The collection celebrates the beauty, energy and biodiversity of Scotland’s coastal environments, bringing together artworks inspired by the country’s cliffs, shorelines and the wildlife that makes its home there.
Gannets, guillemots and geese are among the birds featured, reflecting countless hours Jephcott has spent observing and sketching wildlife through the changing seasons.
Her work has developed a reputation for capturing birds within their natural habitats rather than separating them from the landscapes around them.
That approach allows the character of each species to sit alongside the atmosphere of the coast itself, with land, sea and wildlife all playing their part.
The exhibition also explores the close relationship between those elements and offers visitors a glimpse of coastal ecosystems which can be both spectacular and fragile.
For Jephcott, the inspiration comes from spending time in the landscape and watching what happens there.

Littoral Aspects marks Jephcott’s third return to Inverness Botanic Gardens & Cafe for a solo exhibition.
The setting gives visitors the chance to encounter her interpretation of Scotland’s coast while enjoying one of Inverness’s best known green spaces.
The exhibition brings the wild edges of Scotland indoors, from busy seabird colonies to the movement and character of the landscapes surrounding them.
At its heart is an artist’s fascination with the natural world and the hours of patient observation required to capture something of it on the page.

A percentage of sales from the exhibition will support Inverness Botanic Gardens & Cafe.
Littoral Aspects remains on display until the end of October, giving visitors several more weeks to discover Scotland’s coast and some of its most recognisable wildlife through Jephcott’s eyes.
