A new Highland Council scheme is helping residents across the region make safer choices when hiring trades and services.

The Highland Trusted Trader programme, launched by the Council’s Trading Standards team, offers a directory of vetted local businesses that meet strict standards of professionalism, legal compliance, and customer service.

Each business listed has been thoroughly assessed by Trading Standards professionals to ensure they operate responsibly and ethically.

The scheme includes verified customer feedback, giving prospective clients a clear picture of past performance based on real experiences.

All members must sign up to a detailed Code of Practice, which promotes fairness, integrity, and high standards across the board.

From home improvement firms to electricians and pest control specialists, businesses from Aviemore to Tain are proudly displaying the Highland Trusted Trader badge, a mark of quality that gives customers added peace of mind.

Councillor Paul Oldham, Chair of the Council’s Corporate Resources Committee, said the scheme was already making an impact.

“The Highland Trusted Trader scheme plays a vital role in strengthening our local economy,” he said.

“By connecting residents with reputable, vetted businesses, we’re not only protecting consumers but also supporting the growth of small enterprises across the region.”

“It’s a win-win, residents gain peace of mind, and local businesses gain visibility and trust within their communities.”

Among the first to join was Thain Electrical Ltd, based in Aviemore.

Director Kevin Thain said:

“As a local business operating throughout the Highlands for nearly 30 years, we’re proud to back initiatives that showcase the best the region has to offer.”

“Our participation in the Highland Trusted Trader Scheme shows that we’ve been properly vetted, especially on how we run our business and serve our customers.”

“For us, it’s all about being fair, honest, and reliable.”

The growing list of members includes:

  • B&M Painting Solutions Ltd – Painting and decorating
  • D&D Paving Ltd – Paving, driveways, and landscaping
  • MJM Groundworks – Site preparation and earthworks
  • Bruce Environmental Ltd – Pest control
  • F T Davidson Electricians – Family-run electrical business
  • A J Grant and Sons – Trailer and towing services
  • Highland Decorating Services Ltd – Professional decorators
  • John Morrison Timber Preservation Ltd – Damp and timber treatment
  • Wyvis Roofing Ltd – Roofing services

David MacKenzie, Trading Standards Manager, added:

“Highland Trusted Trader is a significant step forward.

“It helps residents make informed choices while encouraging high standards and professionalism across the region.”

The Highland scheme forms part of Scotland Trusted Trader, a national collaboration between local councils, Trading Standards teams, and Trusted Directory Services (TDS).
