Community transport providers from across the Highlands will gather in Inverness this month to discuss the future of lifeline services that keep rural communities moving.
The Highland Council is hosting the event at its headquarters on Wednesday 13 August, offering groups the chance to meet face‑to‑face, share experience and explore fresh opportunities.
NHS Highland will also join the discussions to look at ways of expanding community transport and finding new ways to work together.
Community transport projects across the region already receive council funding to support their vital work, providing connections in places where public transport is limited or non‑existent.
Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, said these services are uniquely tailored to the communities they serve.
“In the Highlands, community transport providers play a vital role to address local unique circumstances and opportunities,” he said.
“We want to empower communities to set up services in a way which suits them.
“The services already running bring important social benefits to communities where public transport either does not exist or is very limited.
“It’s about finding solutions that meet local needs while empowering individuals and the broader community.”
Councillor Gowans encouraged groups to attend and make the most of the chance to connect.
“We hope providers take up this opportunity to come along as this is a valuable networking opportunity,” he said.
“It is a chance to learn from one another, share best practice and explore future opportunities together.”
The meeting will begin at 10am with welcomes and introductions, followed by a look at current projects before focusing on future opportunities.
Groups can attend in person or join remotely via Microsoft Teams.
Invitations have gone out to community transport organisations across the region, with attendees already confirmed from Beauly and District Care Project, CEC Boleskine, Kingussie Camanachd Club, Partnerships for Wellbeing, Tigh Na Drochaid/Aird Ferry, Wheels in Nairnshire and P4W.
