The Highland Employer Charter has announced a new round of business accreditations alongside the launch of a dedicated website, marking continued growth in the initiative across the region.
The Highland Council confirmed that on 19th of March 2026, nine Gold and four Silver accreditations were awarded to businesses operating across construction, hospitality, tourism, engineering and the third sector.
The Charter recognises employers who demonstrate a strong commitment to fair work and high standards, with a focus on strengthening employment practices across the Highlands.
It is built around four core commitments, including paying the Real Living Wage, supporting local workforce development, strengthening Highland supply chains and investing in staff through fair work practices.
Businesses that meet two or more of these commitments are eligible for Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation, with membership open to employers across the region at no cost.
A new website was launched on 20th of March, providing guidance, case studies and resources for employers looking to improve practices or join the Charter.

The platform also includes a dedicated sign up function, allowing organisations to register interest and begin working towards accreditation online.
The Highland Council, which applies the Charter principles to its own workforce of around 10,000 staff, said the initiative aims to share consistent standards across the wider business community.
Officials say many employers in the Highlands already demonstrate strong values around fair pay, staff development and retention, with the Charter providing a clear framework to build on that work.
Assistant Chief Executive Place Malcolm MacLeod said:
“The second phase of accreditations highlights the momentum growing across sectors, from small enterprises to major employers.
“The Charter is already creating a strong community of businesses that are sharing best practice, mentoring others and raising standards collectively.
“This is more than a policy initiative; it is a movement.
“Every business that joins strengthen that movement and helps to shape the future of fair and progressive employment in Highland.
“Congratulations to all the businesses achieving awards.
“Your commitment to investing in your workforce makes a vital contribution to our region’s economic strength and long term prosperity.”
The expansion of the Charter reflects a wider push to promote fair employment, support local economies and encourage collaboration between businesses across the Highlands.
A growing number of Highland businesses have been recognised for fair work practices as the Employer Charter expands, supported by a new website designed to help organisations improve standards and join the initiative.
