People thinking about becoming foster carers will have the opportunity to speak directly with Highland Council’s fostering team at a series of major events taking place across the Highlands over the coming weeks.

The team will be attending Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival from 30 July to 1 August, the Black Isle Show on 6 August and the Vision 29 Free Family Fun Day at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness on 10 August to answer questions and provide information about fostering.

The informal sessions are designed to help people learn more about becoming a foster carer and the support available, whether they are ready to begin the process now or are simply considering fostering in the future.

Highland Council says more local foster carers are needed to help children remain close to their schools, families, friends and support networks, providing stability during difficult periods in their lives.

Councillor David Fraser, Chair of The Highland Council’s Health, Social Care and Wellbeing Committee, said:

“Fostering provides vital care and support for children and young people and plays a crucial role in communities across Highland.

“Local foster carers help children stay close to their schools, friends and support networks, providing the stability and continuity they need to thrive.

“Highland’s children need more foster carers, and I encourage anyone who has ever considered fostering to come and speak to our team at Belladrum, the Black Isle Show or Vision 29 event.

“A conversation could be the first step towards making a life changing difference for a local child.”

Anyone aged 21 or over who has a spare room and is interested in fostering is encouraged to speak with the team to find out what is involved and whether fostering could be right for them.

Highland Council says foster carers receive comprehensive training, ongoing support and financial allowances while providing safe, caring homes where children can recover, grow and thrive.

Visitors to Belladrum can look out for the Highland Fostering team’s flag banners throughout the festival, while those attending the Black Isle Show will find them at the trade stands.
