Highland Households Urged to Share Views on Future Housing Needs

Highland residents are being asked to help shape the region’s housing future by taking part in a major survey on housing need and demand.

The Highland Council Housing Need & Demand Survey remains open until Friday 7 November, and aims to capture the views and circumstances of people across the region, no matter their age, housing type, or tenure.

The survey will guide how the Council plans and delivers housing and housing services across the Highlands in the years ahead.

Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair, Chair of the Housing & Property Committee, said it was vital that the Council hears from as many voices as possible.

“The Highland Council, as part of its commitment to meeting the Highland Housing Challenge, encourages residents across Highland to complete the survey,” she said.

“This will ensure a robust and accurate data set is captured for all types of housing need, not just Council or rental demand.”

To build a full picture of housing need, the Council is keen to hear from residents aged 16 and over, whether they own, rent, or live in other housing arrangements.

The survey is part of a wider effort to ensure that future housing policy reflects the lived experience and needs of the people it serves, from young families and older residents to rural communities and growing towns.

“This is about making sure we understand what people need, right across Highland communities,” said Cllr Campbell Sinclair.

Telephone interviews are currently underway, and the online survey can be completed until 7 November 2025.

The process is confidential and for research purposes only, with responses managed by independent research firm Research Resource, in line with data protection laws.

Survey results will be used to inform the Council’s long-term housing strategy, helping deliver more of the right homes in the right places.
