The Highlands are firmly on the radar of international investors as Highland Council’s leader, Councillor Raymond Bremner, took centre stage at Scottish Cities Week in London.

Running from 20-22 January, the event showcased Inverness and the wider Highland region as a prime destination for investment, drawing attention to high-growth opportunities across key sectors.

Scottish Cities Week is designed to forge long-term partnerships between cities, government bodies, and investors, reinforcing confidence in Scotland’s ability to deliver smart, sustainable development.

It operates through the Scottish Cities Alliance, a collaboration between Scotland’s cities and the Scottish and UK governments.

With a sharp focus on net zero transitions, place-based investment, and infrastructure development, this year’s event attracted global investors alongside representatives from the Scottish Government, Scottish Development International, and the Department of Business and Trade.

The timing is significant, coinciding with the launch of the Invest Highland brand—Highland Council’s latest push to market the region’s vast investment potential to the world.

Councillor Bremner highlighted the growing international interest in the Highlands, stating:

“The Highland region is really coming into its own and is attracting interest from all over the world.

“We have so much to offer inward investors, and Scottish Cities Week is a great platform for showcasing the world-class opportunities which exist throughout our area.”

He emphasised the importance of external investment in tackling societal challenges and driving transformational change in the region.

Backing this vision, representatives from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport were also in attendance, reinforcing the strong partnerships that underpin the Highlands’ economic ambitions.

With the region’s strategic location, natural resources, and commitment to sustainability, the Highlands are positioning themselves as a dynamic and attractive proposition for businesses and investors looking towards the future.
