How Work is Being Found Across The Highlands is Quietly Changing

Something subtle has shifted in how people across the Highlands encounter work, and it has not arrived with a fanfare, a glossy launch campaign, or another national platform shouting for attention.

It has come from something far simpler and far more grounded: the launch of Highland Jobs as part of the wider Highland Times network.

For the first time, jobs are now sitting where people already are, embedded within the same trusted local space they already use for news, updates, and daily life.

The reach of The Highland Times and Highland Jobs has grown to well over 100,000 people each month through Google search alone, driven by people actively looking for information connected to the Highlands.

Alongside that search reach, the network’s social footprint has expanded sharply, with Facebook content viewed more than 395,000 times in the last 28 days.

That means roles are not just being seen by people actively job hunting, but also by those quietly keeping an eye on what is out there or thinking about a move later in the year.

For employers, particularly those whose vacancies disappear into national job boards built for Glasgow, Edinburgh, or London, this changes the equation entirely.

Instead of shouting into anonymous space, roles are being seen by people who already understand the geography, the pace of life, the housing realities, the travel distances, and the trade-offs that come with working in the Highlands and Islands.

That leads to better conversations, fewer mismatches, and responses from people who are already mentally halfway there.

For jobseekers, it removes the quiet but powerful sense that you must leave the Highlands digitally to build a future within them.

Work is now part of the same local conversation as everything else.
